There is some kind of ancient connection that humans have to animal hides that attract and arouse in a way that very few other things do. Perhaps it is built into us, since the days that we used crudely preserved animal skins for shelter or warmth. Or maybe it has to do with the attachment we have to natural things that age and change over time, like we do. Whatever it is, it brings us here.

The things that we use in our lives gain meaning over time. As we use our bag or wallet, day in, day out, for months or years, it somehow becomes more than just a useful item. It wears in and forms to the things that we put in it. It develops darkened parts where it rubs against us as we carry it. It tells the story of our day to day lives; a spot where a coffee spilled brings back a memory of that day, or a scratch from when you got a new kitten, it is all there.

This is where the importance of quality comes in. As time has gone by, and manufacturing has progressed, products have gotten worse. A lot worse. Most things we buy, we know are future garbage. This is bad for the planet. On top of that, it is bad for us. So build a relationship with something that you buy. Learn to love it, watch it adapt to what you use it for, and maybe, you will pass it on someday and someone else can write their own story on it as well.
